Memorial Library
23 Common Street Petersham, Massachusetts 01366 978-724-3405 Display Case Honours Francis Henry Lee.
The current Library Display Case exhibit honors Francis Henry Lee's role in the creation of the Petersham Memorial Library. Beginning in 1887, Mr. Lee and fellow Civil War veteran Captain John Mudge began work to make the Library and Memorial Hall a reality for the community. The exhibit features a selection of historic documents, photographs, letters, notebooks, and other items telling the story of Mr. Lee's devoted involvement in the conception, funding, and building of the Library.
Archivists Jean Sinclair and Christine Mandel have brought together a trove of materials from the Library's collection, the Petersham Historical Society, the Phillips Library at the Peabody Essex Museum, and private collections to provide a portrait of a man who worked with great energy to inspire goodwill, creativity, and funding from residents and friends to create the Memorial Library for the town of Petersham. The exhibit is on display from February 5 to April 1, 2006. Previous Exhibits at the Library. |
